Importing vector logo files into Freehand MX - AI, eps & pdf

Postby CODE343 » Fri May 11, 2018 10:52 am

Morning all!...

I have been using Freehand since the very early 1990s, previously on Apple Macs whilst I was in the trade, but now to support my hobby since being made redundant in 2013, and taking a career change in a significantly different direction.

As a bit of background to my hobby, I create 1/43 scale models of rally cars, and use Freehand MX on my PC laptop to create the vector files for the waterslide decal artwork.

I therefore have the need to either, import logo vector files from assorted branding websites out there, or create my own master logos by drawing them from scratch.

However, on some occasions Freehand MX can import vector eps files and they work perfectly fine - other times, they appear with an open box line with a diagonal cross within it, so maybe they haven't been saved as an editable eps? Other times I can Import a pdf into Freehand and select / copy / paste the vector logo into my own artwork file, and it works perfectly.

Are there any plugins or apps that I need to install to make this a more successful operation, as most of the time, I seem unable to import anything from elsewhere, or even open the vector files into Freehand MX.

My apologies if this is in the wrong section - maybe some kind moderator or administrator could move it if it isn't? - many thanks.

What I do if I can 't open vector files directly is run them through Illustrator or Affinity Designer first and then resave to a PDF or Ai8 file which FreeHand can open. Works for me. —Mark
