Freehand and MAC OS 10.7 Lion

Postby koehler » Mon Feb 14, 2011 6:08 pm

Has anyone informations if ROSETTA will be available to the upcoming 10.7 Lion?

If not - this would mean we can't install our lovely Freehand anymore........

Right, that is the big upcoming question. I have tried to look up infos from time to time about Rosetta in Lion, but did not find anything reliable so far.

A) Will Rosetta still be included?

B) If not, would the actual Rosetta be able to run on 10.7?

C) If no to both: Forget 10.7, I'll stay with 10.6 - after all Apple is only loading OSX with more and more unnecessary stuff (aka Appstore, iTunes store etc.)

I hope A or B will be it......

If C we have a problem because new macs won't run under 10.6......

Does anybody have a developer in his circle of friends?

Since today The MAC OS LION Developer Preview is available.

This means if someone knew a developer we could ask him if Rosetta is part of Lion!

Yes, but if he sees its not included, it does not mean it will stay that way until the final release. The contrary - if it is included - they still may decide to drop it. On the other hand, if there is an official feature list availabe to developers, this would be much more reliable.

We will post updates here soon while our source is installing and checking lion. His opinion is that probably there will be no Rosetta anymore, as Lion will be completely 64-Bit and may not even support all Intel Macs.

Oh - that sounds bad:

From another Forum:
Did you try to install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD:
/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/Rosetta.pkg

???

Rosetta installed without any errors, but it still gives the same error trying to start up a PowerPC application

Only bad news today. My collegue has installed the recent OS X 10.7 developer version, and he says there is no Rosetta available/included.

This is not the ultimate answer, as it could get included later on. However, chances don't look good.

Hi all, I've been watching this thread closely.
Right now, it looks like Rosetta will not be part of OS X 10.7 based on online discussions including the Apple forums. Lion beta testers are reporting this alert when opening a PPC application or when installing Rosetta (from Snow Leopard) on 10.7:
"You can't open the application ApplicationName because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"

Several FreeHand users are commenting on this here:
